I mentioned on the About me page that I’m a person with a physical disability and high support needs. Oh, what a magical thing. Or perhaps not so magical after all? Let me explain.
When you’re thirsty, you stand up, find a glass and drink. Well, I can’t do that. When I’m thirsty, I ask someone to be so kind as to give me a glass of water, preferably with a straw (if I drink straight from a glass, without a straw, the losses are heavy).
In the same way, we could go through almost every everyday activity that you do for yourself automatically, but I can’t. I’m simply unable to. I need help with these.
That sounds rather depressing, but it isn’t. I like to say about myself that in my case everything is different, and yet everything is the same. The same desires, aspirations and goals as anyone else. I want to live a “normal”, active, preferably meaningful life. It’s just that I need a lot of help to do it.
Now someone might say: but that is one of the state’s jobs, and we do get help from it. True, we do. For example, personal assistance on working days during office hours, from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. I like to say that I’m a good-for-nothing disabled person, unable to adapt to the unjustified whims of the system – because, I confess, I’m not physically disabled only during those hours; I am, every single day, 24/7.
Partly because of this, I have my conflicts with the system. Wherever I can, I try to speak up about this untenable situation.
At the same time, from a practical point of view, I have to arrange my care – today, tomorrow and the day after tomorrow too. That’s why I’m looking for enterprising, open-minded people who would be happy to get a taste of helping a disabled person in everyday life, either on a voluntary basis or as a paid job.
Since I need help in different areas of life, mutual trust and both of our personalities matter a great deal. Besides, because of my physical limits, the division of roles is fairly strict. Don’t picture this work as a job where you always have to stand to attention in front of the boss; it is more of a cooperation for a set period of time. It is a situation where a good conversation, perhaps a film, or a game fits in easily. Alongside my daily routine, of course.
If I’ve caught your interest, feel free to write to me. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never done this before – I’ll train you.
(The application page is in Hungarian. If that is a problem, just write to me.)
